Q: The key is separate to the ignition key and i would prefer not to pay a fortune with a locksmith. Will i ultimately need to buy a new cap and key and get the old one removed or is there a key out there somewhere which i can buy for a few quid.
A: getting a replacement key from ford will cost a fortune, and takes time. cheapest easiest and quicest way is to break the lock on deisel cap (take flat head screwdriver place in lock and smash in with screwdriver turn and cap should come away) replacement
Have misplaced oil filler cap for VW caravelle and need one ASAP, where can i buy one?

Fit in the diesel neck. Audi's system, like the one used by BMW, adds a flap in the neck to prevent fuel flow. The flap only opens up if the nozzle presses on contact points just below the cap. The smaller gasoline nozzle won't be be able to hit all of the contacts at once and the flap will prevent fuel from getting into the tank. Apparently, the improved refinement of modern diesel engines has led to an increase in misfueling in recent years, prompting both BMW and Audi to add the new feature. BMW has had this mechanism in all of its diesel vehicles since early 2009.
That works (most of the time) when it's the owner driving the vehicle, but problems arise when the vehicle gets lent out to someone who doesn't usually drive it.

I've seen another potential headache at the occasional filling station in the USA, though ... a diesel pump that is actually using the smaller-diameter nozzle that's supposed to be used for gasoline. Never seen that here in Canada, where we have a lot more diesel vehicles.
It's a matter of taste...you know those balloon fishes (there's that one in Nemo)? Well the Q7 seams an A3 sportback mashed-up with one of those, to me.
But I see how those lines appeal to the american suburban housewife, in need of 2Tons of car to fetch groceries down the block... or the bling'hood bro to flash his newly snatched 20 inchers.
Regarding harshness and quietness, the X5 is still better.
I think this is a good thing. I've been driving gas cars for 25 years and must have performed the "fill the tank" routine 1000 times by now. I just bought my first diesel a few months ago and this is still a source of anxiety for me: I worry that some day, when I'm tired from driving hundreds of miles and it's late at night, my autopilot will kick in and I'll fill my whole tank with unleaded.
